MIDDLETOWN (AP) - Future NFL Hall of Fame football player Cris Carter grew up playing and training at Middletown's football stadium.
Now he will be back to see its field renamed in his honor. The Middletown Journal reports that Carter will be in Middletown for events that also will include getting a Hall of Fame bust that he will donate to the high school. He also will speak at a Tuesday banquet that includes Middletown native Jerry Lucas, who's in the pro basketball Hall of Fame. Both played at Ohio State.
Carter lived near Barnitz Stadium as a child, and says he ran up and down its steps wearing a weighted jacket to work out when older. Some school supporters suggested naming Barnitz's field for him, and the board of education approved.
