LAWRENCE COUNTY, PA- The woman accused of killing a Shenango Township Police Officer was arraigned Monday morning in Ellwood City.
Kylee Barletto, 26, of New Castle, is charged in Pennsylvania with homicide by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter, and aggravated assault as well as driving without a proper license in connection to the death of officer William "Jerry" McCarthy Thursday night.
Bond was set at $250,00.
According to police, Barletto was fleeing New Castle police when she crashed into the cruiser driven by officer Michael Lynch, with McCarthy inside the front passenger's seat
Lynch was seriously injured in the crash.
Barletto was treated at the hospital for a fractured nose and fractured ribs before being sent over to the Mahoning County Jail. Her attorney said she had not been eating since the crash, adding she was having trouble remembering some things.
In an affidavit, Barletto told state police she remembered being chased by New Castle police and didn't stop because her driver's license was suspended.
However, she changed her story later, saying that something was wrong with her car and she couldn't stop.
