Struthers AmVets in national contest

STRUTHERS, Ohio - There are only a few days left to vote for the Struthers AmVets to win a national contest.

The AmVets in Struthers won $25,000 last fall in the Home Depot Foundation's Facebook contest called "Aprons in Action."

This month, they have the chance to win $250,000 in the national contest.

AmVets is competing with 10 other nonprofit finalists across the United States for the grand prize.

AmVets members say with the money they've received so far, they've been revamping their building, buying supplies and beefing up their career center.

"We're hoping to have transition assistance programs here, interview skills, how to dress, how to job search. We'd like to have some job fairs here," says AmVets 44 post commander Jan Brown.

"I'm a vet myself, so I know the struggles they go through on a day to day basis, gone out and served our country," says Buddy Colley of Home Depot.

You can vote for AmVets on the Aprons in Action Facebook page, or Home Depot's Facebook page.

All of the nonprofits serve veterans in some way. Voting lasts through May 31st.
