Safety and Leadership luncheon honors local businesses

BOARDMAN, Ohio - The Mahoning Valley Safety Council hosted their annual Safety and Leadership Awards Luncheon on Wednesday afternoon.

The banquet honored 81 local companies for excellent and improved claim records last from last year.

Boak and Sons of Austintown won the Joan Kovach Leadership Award, which recognizes a leading company that distinguished itself among others involved.

Magna Seating - Lordstown Seating Systems in Lordstown and Steel & Alloy Utility Products in McDonald were also competing for the award. 

Dale Hamilton, BWC chief operating officer, was the keynote speaker at the event.

    Authorities in Mercer county are investigating reports of thieves skimming credit guards to steal consumers personal information. It happened recently at Wagler's Camp Perry service station in Clarks Mills.   Skimming happens when thieves unlock gas pumps and connect a skimmer to the card reader which steals information when a customer swipes a credit or debit card.

    A Warren man has filed a quarter-of-a-million dollar excessive force lawsuit naming the City of Warren, its police department, two of its officers, and Trumbull County as defendants. The suit filed in U.S. District Court by Jimmy White claims that Warren Police Officer Chris Martin broke his arm when he was being handcuffed on May 25, 2015 during what was originally characterized as a domestic violence call.
