Furlough to impact Youngstown Air Reserve Station

Posted: Updated:

VIENNA, Ohio - More than 400 civilian employees at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station could be forced to take 11 days of unpaid leave.

According to Major Brent Davis with the 910th Airlift Wing, the employees could face one day of furlough per week, beginning July 8 until they reach 11 total days.

The unpaid leave would be the result of automatic defense budget cuts. According to Davis, it may have an impact on the training  individuals receive before deployment.

"You've got so many people here that all fall under that flying mission with the C-130," says Davis. "So when there is an impact, when we are reduced by 20% in this case, the flying, the obvious visible thing is you're not going to see planes flying on that day."

Overall, the Department of Defense announced 680,000 civilian employees will be impacted.

Major Davis said he should know in a couple of weeks exactly how many of their employees will be impacted.
