Cleveland kidnap suspect quickly on suicide watch

Posted: Updated:

CLEVELAND (AP) - Newly released logs show the man charged with holding three women captive and raping them over a decade in his Cleveland house was quickly put on jail suicide watch.

At the request of The Associated Press, Cleveland released jail logs Wednesday covering the first three days that 52-year-old Ariel Castro was locked up. He later was transferred to the county jail, where he has remained under suicide watch on $8 million bond.

The city jail logs say Castro and two brothers, also arrested May 6 but both cleared and released three days later, were kept under 24-hour suicide watch.

All three rejected media jailhouse interview requests, and the log says Ariel Castro was emphatic about that.

Castro has been charged with rape and kidnapping and intends to plead not guilty.
