New bald eagle nests confirmed in northeast Ohio

Posted: Updated:

AKRON, Ohio (AP) - Three more pairs of bald eagles have built nests in remote and inaccessible areas in northeast Ohio

The Akron Beacon Journal reports that parks officials and biologists say the newly reported nests are in Summit County.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources estimates at least 190 active eagle nests in the state. The number of eaglets in 2013 has not been estimated.

1 of the three nests in Summit County is in the Gorge Metro Park between Akron and Cuyahoga Falls, and another is on park-owned land in Clinton in southern Summit County. The other is on the University of Akron property next to the Bath Nature Preserve.

An official with Metro Parks, Serving Summit County says bald eagles are showing a growing ability to coexist with humans.
