Niles man who pleaded guilty to kidnapping, stealing car sentenced

NILES, Ohio - The Niles man accused of stealing a car with a sleeping two-year-old in the backseat has been sentenced.

Ross Francis. 42, was sentenced to eight years after pleading guilty to kidnapping and grand theft auto.

He originally apologized for blacking out and leaving the child unattended. He then blamed alcoholism for his actions. 

The missing child prompted a region-wide amber alert for the toddler, identified as Michael Babuka. He was not armed in the incident.

    A two-car accident took place in North Jackson around 6 p.m. on Friday. According to officials, one car failed to yield and struck a truck. The truck then rolled over into a ditch, and then into a field on it's top. One person is reported by police to have non-life-threatening injuries. The intersection of Blott and Rosemont is currently closed. Officers say it will hopefully be open by 9 p.m.
