Soldier returning from Afghanistan meets newborn twin daughters for 1st time

Out of all the happy homecomings of soldiers returning from Afghanistan, this one is twice as nice.

The gymnasium at Joint Base Lewis-McChord buzzed with excitement Monday night. But out of all the children anxious to see mom or dad walk through the door, two sisters had a special story to tell, if only they were old enough to talk.

Ellah and Evelyn Stamper are 12 weeks old twins. Their mother, Carrie, explained how she had her husband tried for four years to have children, miscarrying twice in the third trimester.

They finally found a surrogate to bring their daughters into the world.

"It's a lot, but we just roll with it," said Stamper.

But Ellah and Evelyn came 7 weeks early. Their father missed the emergency C-section and the three weeks they spent in the intensive care unit.

"It was extremely frantic, freaking out, but he was the one telling me 'Calm down. Everything will be okay,'" said their mom.
