Detective-sergeant does not post bond, remains in jail

Posted: Updated:

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - New details have emerged in the case of a Youngstown police officer accused of misconduct with a child.

Detective-Sergeant Robert Lodwick waved his preliminary trial on Wednesday afternoon, did not post bond and remains in jail.

Authorities say Lodwick copied naked photos of a 14-year-old girl and solicited her over the Internet and cell phone for sex.

Police say he was assigned to a rape case involving the girl, who was 13 at the time when the officer began to ask her for sex.

The victim and her mother plan to sue the city.

"He was working with this girl because she was sexually assaulted by two people. He was the police officer entrusted to help her and he turned into the pursuer," said Attorney Dave Betras. "He used pictures of her, texting her and had chat with her that was very inappropriate."

Lodwick was initially jailed on $100,000 bond and charged with two felonies. He has reportedly confessed to the charges.
