New Castle man training for mission to Mars

HOUSTON, Texas - A New Castle native could step foot on Mars.

Doctor Andrew Morgan, 37 is one of eight astronaut candidates selected out of 6,300 applicants.

Morgan is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. He earned a Ph.D from the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences in Maryland.

Doctor Morgan is also a flight surgeon for the Army Special Operations Community.

Training will prepare the astronuats for missions to low-Earth orbit, asteroid and Mars.  

Training for the mission begins later this summer.
