General Motors sees success in 2013 J.D. Power rankings

Posted: Updated:

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. - General Motors tops the J.D. Power and Associates' list this year for best quality as a car company.

Adding to GM's success moving to number one from seventh last year is top-five quality rankings for GMC and Chevrolet.

GMC ranked second behind Porsche for overall quality and Chevrolet took the number five spot.

Lexus and Infiniti take the third and fourth spots respectively.

Chevrolet also received five of the 26 model-level segment awards.

The Avalanche and GMC Sierra LD tied for top rated large light duty pickups, the Camaro tied with the Ford Mustang in the midsize sporty cars category and the Impala, Silverado and Tahoe took top spots in their respective categories.

When surveying consumer problems in the first 90 days of a vehicle purchase, the J.D. Powers survey found car buyers were more likely to find problems with design of the vehicle rather than manufacturer problems.

The annual Initial Quality Study conducted by J.D. Power was redesigned this year to better measure problems related to new technologies and to owners to provide more detailed feedback.
