St. Charles festival begins in Boardman

Posted: Updated:

BOARDMAN, Ohio - The first day of summer marks the start of the 23rd annual St. Charles Festival in Boardman Friday night.

Kids were ready for their favorite rides, fresh lemon shakes were made and the games were in full swing.

As Italian sausages rolled hot off the grill, the food is definitely something that keeps faithful fairgoers coming back.

"The food is the staple of any festival. More than one person has said to me, we come to the festival to eat. There's some little gimmicks around. The teachers have a little birthday booth to guess the month of your birthday. The lemon shakes, the bakery to add to the food, but you're not going to get away from french fries, sausage, steak sandwiches and elephant ears. That's what this is all about," says Tom Poplar with the Festival Committee.

Along with the great food, there will be plenty of live music as the house band is scheduled for Saturday night and the Boardman Jazz Ensemble will take the stage Sunday afternoon.

The festival ends Sunday night with fireworks at 10:15 p.m.
