Kids cheer on turtles during annual Lions Club event

LOWELLVILLE, Ohio - You have probably heard the fable about the race between the tortoise and the hare.

So what happens when turtles are pitted against one another? People got a close up look during the Youngstown Lions Club's 92nd annual Turtle Derby!

The reptiles took off trying to go up the Plexiglas lane or inching towards the finish line.

Kids cheered on their favorite turtle during the races at the Lowellville "Cruisin' the River Car Cruise and Bike Night" Monday.

The Lions Club hopes to raise $30,000 for local people in need.

The car cruise takes place every Monday night on East Water Street May through October.  According to the event's web site, the show goes from 6- 9 p.m. Labor Day through October, the car show takes place from 5-8 p.m.
