Columbiana County EMA Director: No tornado

Posted: Updated:

COLUMBIANA COUNTY, Ohio - The Columbiana County Emergency Management Agency Director said that despite some concerns from residents, a tornado did not touch down in the area Tuesday during a severe storm.

Some residents reported sighting a funnel cloud, and EMA Director Luke Newbold said damaged trees appeared to be twisted. But the National Weather Service says there was no tornado.

Newbold said the region's hilly terrain may have contributed to abnormal wind patterns during the storm.

As of Wednesday morning, AEP said it had restored electricity to all of it's customers.

At one point on Tuesday, First Energy reported almost 6,000 residents without power. Crews were working throughout the day to restore power to 120 homes and businesses in Columbiana county.
