Citizens honored after fire rescue in Lawrence County

LAWRENCE COUNTY, Pa. - The citizens who pulled a Lawrence County woman from her burning home last month, were honored as heroes Tuesday night.

The Wurtemburg- Perry Volunteer Fire department, along with state and local officials gave awards to the seven individuals after they rescued Donna Hunter from her Portersville Road home when it caught fire in June.

Hunter's son Codey said they're true heroes for the courage they showed that day to save his mom's life.

"Honestly, it wasn't even a thought in my mind and I don't think it was a thought in anybody's mind," said rescuer Mark Greene. "We knew that there was somebody in danger, there was no body around professionally, and we felt that if we didn't act she would have been seriously hurt."

Codey Hunter said his mom has had a few skin graft surgeries but is doing alright in Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh.
