Sheriff's deputy pleads not guilty in Niles OVI case

NILES, Ohio - The Mahoning County sheriff's deputy charged with driving drunk after a two-car crash pleaded not guilty in municipal court Thursday morning.

Amos Case, 31, was cited after the crash here Tuesday.

He is charged with first-degree misdemeanor drunk driving and failing to leave an assured clear distance between vehicles.

Although Case's blood-alcohol level was less than half the legal limit a the time of the accident, officers says Case failed a field sobriety test.

During the test, Case swayed while balancing, could not remain standing heel-to-toe and stopped the test before being instructed to do so.

Case was placed in handcuffs and taken to the Niles Police Department where he was issued a citation.

A woman involved in the crash was sent to the hospital and was treated for injuries.
