Posted: Updated:

NILES, Ohio - A Mineral Ridge man was shot  to death this morning during what Niles Police are investigating as a possible home break-in.

A news release from Detective Jim Robbins says that the body of Terry D. Allen was  found outside the front door of  a home at 1539  Niles Cortland Road after they were called to a burglary in progress at about 12:30 a.m. Friday.

Officers were advised that one shot had been fired.  Upon arrival, the resident of the home told officers that he heard two voices as someone tried to break into his home through the door. The resident says he  fired a shot which went through the  front door.

When officers arrived, they found Allen's body inside the home, dead from an apparent gunshot wound in the torso.

Detective tell 21 News that they are still investigating, and at this time, no charges have been filed against the resident who rents the home.

The Trumbull County Coroner was performing an autopsy on the body of the shooting victim Friday afternoon and is expected to issue a ruling on the death when completed.
