East Liverpool bar declared total loss after fire

Posted: Updated:

EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio - A Mulberry Street bar has been declared a total loss after a large fire Sunday night.

Firefighters responded to Legends Sports Bar & Grill at 10:15 p.m. Officials say they were on scene the entire night trying to control the fire.

The building was gutted and the roof collapsed. Firefighters were still dealing with smoking "hot spots" a day after the blaze.

The night club was closed Sunday and the only injury was a firefighter who was hospitalized for heat exhaustion and smoke inhalation. He has since been released and no one else was injured.

Investigators with the state fire marshal were called in by East Liverpool.

"We called them for their assistance because it's a commercial building. The gentleman here has been unlucky in having a couple of fires in our city before, so we just want to make sure we're crossing all out T's and dotting our I's," says East Liverpool Fire Chief Bill Jones.

The owner, Jeff Hall was on the scene talking to investigators but declined our request for an interview.

No estimate on the damages has been determined.
