Car struck by train in Salem

SALEM, Ohio - A man trying to cross train tracks at Allen Road came up short when the oncoming train hit his car's rear end.

The man driving the teal Chevrolet Cavalier was taken to Salem Community Hospital to be checked out and the car was totaled.

The train was traveling north and hit the car on the passenger side rear end. The car then spun off the tracks striking a utility pole.

The driver, whose name has not been released, will be charged with disregarding crossing lights.

The car is registered to a 32-year-old man from Alliance.
