CAMPBELL, Ohio - The Campbell Education Association has issued an intent to strike notice effective August 26, when school is scheduled to begin the new year.

The union representing 93 teachers said the strike notice was given because the school board has not rescinded the contract that was implemented July 1, when the old contract expired.

A federally mediated bargaining session is scheduled for next Tuesday.

"The CEA is hopeful that the talks beginning Tuesday will produce a fair and equitable contract. It's definitely a first step," says union spokesperson Colleen Joss.

The teachers voted earlier this week to authorize their union leadership to issue a strike notice.

A special Board of Education meeting has been scheduled for July 29th.
