McDonald offering water services for new Austintown racino

Posted: Updated:

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio - The city of McDonald is now offering to provide water at the site of the Austintown's planned thoroughbred racetrack.

As construction continues on the new racino on state Route 46, a total of three cities have come forward to offer their assistance.

Youngstown's Mayor still wants to move forward with negotiations to form a Joint Economic Development District with Austintown, despite objections from trustees.

Trustees say the decision is ultimately up to Penn National Gaming.

"The city of Niles has stepped up and we're so greatly appreciative of them placing an offer on the table. Now we just got a call this morning from the Mayor of McDonald who is interested in providing water as well," says Austintown Township Trustee Jim Davis.

"So there are some offers out there, but the people that need to be a part of this conversation, when it comes down to it, is Penn National."

Trustees say Penn National Gaming is exploring all options before making a commitment to any city.
