Ryan introduces legislation to extend Delphi retirees health coverage

Posted: Updated:

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Ohio Congressman Tim Ryan, along Congressman Mike Turner, has introduced a new bill to continue health tax credit coverage for Delphi retirees.

According to a release, the new legislation would provide retirees with the choice of continuing their current coverage, titled the Health Care Tax Credit Coverage, past the December 31 termination date established by the Affordable Care Act.

The coverage would be available to all retirees receiving Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation pensions.

"It is crucial that we do not leave behind these hardworking Americans, like the Delphi Retirees, many of whom have had their pensions and healthcare significantly reduced through no fault of their own," Ryan stated in the release.

Delphi Salaried retirees have been fighting to find answers over claims that their pensions were not treated equally with union pensions during the Obama administration's auto industry bailout.

Earlier in June, representatives for the Delphi Salaried Retirees met with the House Oversight and Reform Committee for a hearing to review the claims.
