Struthers Council rezones building to house foreign students

Posted: Updated:

STRUTHERS, Ohio - An empty building in Struthers will be refurbished to house foreign students who want to go to local high schools.

Wednesday evening city council approved rezoning of a building on Fifth Street. Upper class Chinese students will live there and attend local schools for a year.

The businessman behind the Honor House project said that there is a waiting list.

"America will continue to be the next super power or the super power for the rest of the 21st century. That's why thinking like an American behaving like an American is so important. Most Americans don't realize that 40% of Asia top government officials were at one time scholars in this country," said David Ho, CEO of the American Scholar Group.

The project already has a similar operation in Greenville.

About 80 students are signed up to attend western Pennsylvania and Youngstown area schools this year.

The first group of students are scheduled to arrive mid-August.

"They are aiming for the top Ivy League schools in this country. We would add a lot of value to the local schools because 20 years from now, these students are going to be movers and shakers in their home country if they chose to go home. If they do not chose to go home, most of them are already planning to move their family businesses into this country," he said.
