Theft blamed for Youngstown home explosion

Posted: Updated:

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Fire investigators suspected that natural gas was to blame when a house blew up on Cohasset Drive Wednesday. Now they know why.

Arson investigator Alvin Ware tells 21 news that thieves cut a gas line when they stole a stove from the home.

Although the home was not occupied, the house was still connected to gas service.

Ware says there are no suspects at this time.

The explosion rocked many parts of the city Wednesday morning.  What was left of the structure was removed by city demolition crews.

No one was injured, but nearby homes were damaged by the  blast and flying debris.
