Inspiring Minds showcases summer community outreach

Posted: Updated:

WARREN, Ohio - A group of Warren students who spent the summer learning some valuable life lessons in giving back showcase their projects.

Inspiring Minds celebrated the end of its summer enrichment program Friday, at Warren G. Harding High School. Volunteer and community opportunities filled the summer calendar for the students enrolled.

Tables with fresh produce at the finale event served as an example of the harvest the students tended to at Victory Garden. On Friday, students and their parents were encouraged to participate in a can food drive, where all of the items collected would go directly to the Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley.

Mayor Doug Franklin says delivering awards to eight outstanding students is proof the eight-week program works.

"If you talk to any of the graduates and any kids in the program, their respect and discipline and leadership skills, they're pretty obvious and it's a result of not only their parents, but this program as well," Franklin says.

The community service projects were designed to show students that no matter how big or small a donation may be, it's important to be a part of giving back.
