Austintown construction on Idaho Road complete after one year

Posted: Updated:

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio - After a year of construction, the Idaho Road project is complete.

Local officials gathered for a ribbon-cutting to officially open the road to traffic. The former no-outlet, dead end street is now open all the way to a new traffic signal at New Road.

It's viewed as a big benefit for both the schools and Township safety forces.

"We found it important to not only have access for busses going to and from the schools, but for our police and fire to have access from where ever they are in the Township, to get through easy access to the schools. It's a win-win for both parties," says Austintown Township Trustee Jim Davis.

Officials boarded an Austintown school bus for the first ride on the complete road.

School leaders say the light will make it much safer for busses making left turns onto heavily traveled New Road.
