New tower to boost phone reception at Canfield Fair

Posted: Updated:

CANFIELD, Ohio - Visitors at the upcoming Canfield Fair will have an easier time navigating the fairgrounds with their mobile devices.

AT&T will provide a temporary tower at the fair to help to boost cell phone reception for its customers.

The fair has an app available for both iPhone and Android users, which launched in 2012.

"Last year, they ran into a few problems where there were so many people using it, that they just couldn't even use their phones hardly," says Chuck Booth, Canfield Fair president.

The temporary tower will be installed next week behind the race track area, where it won't be as visible to visitors.

A new AT&T cell tower to serve both Trumbull and Mahoning counties is still under construction, but the company says this is its best solution.

Fair organizers are hoping more guests use the features the app has to offer, including the setting that will track where fairgoers park their car.

"When you get into the fair and you can't find your car, when you hit it, it puts a direct line from yourself to your car," Booth says. "Then while you're in the fair, if you want to find somebody's french fries or sausage sandwich or something, you can just click on there and it tells you exactly where it is."

The Canfield Fair begins August 28 and lasts through Labor Day weekend. Click here to learn more about the fair app.
