Browns RB Hardesty to have knee surgery

Posted: Updated:

BEREA, Ohio (AP) - Browns running back Montario Hardesty will undergo arthroscopic knee surgery, his latest medical setback.

Cleveland coach Rob Chudzinski said Hardesty, who dislocated his right thumb in practice earlier this week, will have surgery on Thursday. Chudzinski said Hardesty has been bothered by soreness in his knee for a while. He missed the majority of training camp with a hamstring injury, but Chudzinski said the knee problem is not related.

Chudzinski does not know how long Hardesty will be sidelined, but said "he'll make it back."

Hardesty has had injury issues throughout his NFL career. He tore a knee ligament in his final exhibition game in 2010 and missed his entire rookie season. Hardesty also had knee problems in college at Tennessee.

The former second-round draft pick rushed for 271 yards as Trent Richardson's backup last season.
