Bacteria causes Neshannock Twp. business to temporarily close

NESHANNOCK TOWNSHIP, Pa. - Bacteria found in water has caused a Neshannock Township business to temporarily close.

A spokesperson for Liberty Mutual says during routine testing a bacteria that can cause Legionnaires Disease was detected in the building's water cooling tower.

The company took "prudent" action to close the building while state and county health departments conduct further testing.

The spokesperson says the type of bacteria is called Legionella. It can occur naturally in warm water, like hot tubs and large plumbing systems.

About 700 employees work at the Liberty Mutual office, located on Wilmington Road. Some employees are being offered to work in other offices until the issue is resolved. All employees will be paid for the time off.

The building is expected to remain closed through Monday.

For updates, employees can call (866) 486-2063.
