Man accused of stealing thousands from Youngstown veterans

Posted: Updated:

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The officer of a Youngstown veterans organization appears in court to answer allegations that he stole thousands of dollars from that organization.

Seventy-two-year-old James Lottier Jr. was arraigned in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court Tuesday on a charge of theft.

Assistant County Prosecutor Martin Desmond tells 21 News that, Lottier Jr. took $12,000 from American Legion Post 732 and 504, where he served as Canteen Manager.

The two posts were once separate, but have since merged into one location.

Desmond says Lottier only admits to taking $1,800.

Lottier's bond was set at $5,000.

The suspect is scheduled for another appearance in court on September 11.
