YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - A once flourishing business on Youngstown's west side will breathe new life, with the support of the city.
The former Italian American War Veterans Club on South Meridian Road has crossed a hurdle in becoming a catering and banquet hall as part of a $1.2 million renovation.
City council on Wednesday approved a ten year, 75 percent tax abatement for the business.
"We have a lot of properties that we like to see return to a practical use. It is one less property that is empty and I think it's very viable," said Youngstown Councilman Mike Ray.
Owner John Zeoli says Giovanni's Catering and Banquet Hall, would also accommodate a new bar named Z's Lounge and an outdoor patio.
The post closed in 2011 and was sold at auction earlier this year.
The abatement still needs Board of Control approval.
