Neshannock Township man charged with murdering his father

Posted: Updated:

NEW CASTLE, Pa. - State Police in Lawrence County have charged a Neshannock Township man with murdering his own father.

28-year-old Michael Burrelli is held in jail without bond after being arraigned Thursday on charges of criminal homicide, abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence.

Authorities found 52-year-old Charles Burrelli, dead from apparent gunshot wounds inside a Union Township garage earlier in the day.

Troopers say the suspect fired seven shots at his father.  When police arrived on scene, they found Michael Burrelli trying to dispose of his father's body. They say a garbage bag had been placed over the victim's head and said the younger Burrelli was attempting to place his father's body in his Jeep.

Police believe the two were fighting before the homicide occurred. Troopers say Burrelli has admitted his involvement in the case.

Burrelli is scheduled to appear before a magistrate for a preliminary hearing on September 29.
