Rogers man changes mind about plea in child rape case

Posted: Updated:

LISBON, Ohio - A Rogers man, who pleaded guilty to the rape of a 13-year-old boy, changed his mind at the last minute Friday.

51-year-old Eric Holsinger was scheduled to be sentenced in court, but instead he asked the judge to consider withdrawing his guilty plea.

Assistant prosecutor Tim McNicol says Holsinger has a legal right to make that request. "In my experience often times defendants, especially those who are incarcerated, talk to others at the county jail and I think sometimes they are given the impression that perhaps they could have gotten a better resolution.", said McNicol.

Holsinger is accused of sexually assaulting a teen in the Salem Memorial Building last year.

Authorities say the mentally disabled boy was attending a dinner with his family and was molested when he went to the restroom.
