Western PA couple holds hospital wedding for ill mom

Posted: Updated:

LATROBE, Pa. (AP) - A western Pennsylvania couple held their wedding ceremony in a hospital so the groom's terminally ill mother could attend.

On Friday 63-year-old Anna Mae Kern watched the ceremony in the chapel of Excela Latrobe Area Hospital.

Thirty-1-year-old Adam Kern says he knew he wanted to marry 27-year-old Ashley Leighty the day he met her. He proposed last year, and the couple had planned to wed at some point. But when his mother's health took a serious turn for the worse after a long struggle with breast cancer, they planned the wedding in less than a week.

Kern says it meant everything to have his mother at the wedding.
