Austintown beefs up security for the new school year

Posted: Updated:

AUSTINTOWN TWP., Ohio - Students in the Austintown Local School district will find more than just new buildings when they return to class next week.

The board of education has adopted a new safety plan.

According to school superintendent Vince Colaluca, police officers will be stationed in every school on a full time basis.

Also on duty will be a full time truant officer who is a retired police officer.

Colaluca says that having the full-time officers in the halls is a first for the school system.

The district plans to open two new state of the art buildings for kindergarten through second grade, and grades three through five.

The new school year in Austintown begins on Wednesday.
