Browns cut kicker Shayne Graham

Posted: Updated:

BEREA, Ohio (AP) - The Browns have terminated the contract of veteran Shayne Graham, leaving the club without a kicker with just a week left until their season opener.

Graham's release was surprising since the Browns also cut rookie kicker Brandon Bogotay on Saturday. The releases leave a huge hole for the the Browns, who elected not to re-sign Phil Dawson after last season.

Wide receiver David Nelson was among 13 players released as first-year Browns coach Rob Chudzinski reduced his roster to 53.

Nelson signed with the Browns as a free agent in April. He missed last season after tearing a knee ligament in the opener with Buffalo. He was slowed by a bone bruise in training camp and only appeared in one exhibition game.

Also, the Browns released rookie safety Jamoris Slaughter, a sixth-round draft pick this year from Notre Dame.
