Armed robbery reported near YSU campus

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Police are investigating a robbery on Youngstown's north side near the Youngstown State University campus.

Police say that around 1 a.m. Monday, two males armed with handguns, robbed two people at 257 Alameda Avenue, then fled toward Fifth Avenue.

Police describe the suspects as black males, 16  to 17 years old, approximately 5'8", weighing between 120-150 pounds, dressed in black hooded sweaters. The witnesses tell police both suspects wore bandanas over their faces.

 
A YSU text alert regarding the robbery was sent out early Monday morning.  YSU officials say that the incident was not on the physical YSU campus, however texts were sent out  to students and staff as a precautionary measure.

    A court hearing is scheduled next week for a Mercer county man charged with rape and indecent assault involving two young girls. Police say the rape charged against 21-year old Zachary Taylor of Grove City involves a 14-year old girl.  In a separate case he is charged with indecent assault of a six year old. He's also charged with corruption of minors.  The offenses reportedly took place at Taylor's home.  He is held in jail pending next week's court hearing.    More >>
