YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - City police have made an arrest in connection with robberies near the YSU campus.

According to a YPD news release, police searched a home at 261 Norwood Avenue at 10 a.m. Tuesday in relation to a rash of armed robberies occurring on the north side of the city around the YSU campus.

Police say they recovered evidence believed related to the robberies, including two hand guns, a shell casing, narcotics, drug paraphernalia, cell phones and clothing.

A 17-year-old male was taken into custody at the scene. The suspect's name was not released. Police Chief Rod Foley says the teen will be charged in juvenile court on Wednesday.

Police say a second suspect is being sought.

Youngstown police say there have been seven armed robberies and one burglary  on the north side of Youngstown since August 12.

In all eight of the robberies, victims described suspects as teenagers carrying firearms.

The crimes took place between 9:00 p.m. and 2:30 a.m. within a concentrated area on the north side, according to chief Foley.

The most recent robbery near the YSU campus was reported early Monday morning

Foley says the arrest results from investigations conducted by Youngstown Police and officers from Youngstown State University.
