Steadfast Penguins eager to get started

Posted: Updated:

PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Pittsburgh Penguins headed back to work on Wednesday, reporting for training camp just three months removed from a painful loss to Boston in the Eastern Conference finals.

The Penguins return the core of a team that finished with the best record in the East during a lockout-shortened season. Coach Dan Bylsma received a contract extension in the offseason. Evgeni Malkin, Kris Letang and Chris Kunitz also earned extensions, as well, while Pascal Dupuis signed a new 4-year deal rather than leave in free agency.

Captain Sidney Crosby says he didn't dwell on the 4-game sweep at the hands of the Bruins and is anxious for another shot at leading the Penguins to the Stanley Cup.

The team's first workout is Thursday. The Penguins open the preseason Sunday in Columbus.
