Man charged after Pa. cheerleader fight at game

Posted: Updated:

CARLISLE, Pa. (AP) - The uncle of a girl involved in a fight among cheerleaders at a youth football game in south-central Pennsylvania is facing charges after allegedly assaulting an off-duty state trooper who was trying to break it up.

The Patriot-News of Harrisburg reported (http://bit.ly/14aKp3u ) that 29-year-old Damien Jones of Harrisburg was charged with aggravated and simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct after the Sunday evening game in Carlisle.

North Middleton Township Police Chief Douglas Reitz said the trooper was trying to make an arrest after a 13-year-old cheerleader wouldn't stop fighting. Reitz says that's when Jones, the uncle of 1 of the cheerleaders, attacked the trooper and knocked him down.

Jones was taken to Cumberland County jail and court records did not list a lawyer for him.
