Man threatens to jump off Mosier Road Bridge

Posted: Updated:

GIRARD, Ohio - "He said he just hated life and just wanted to end it is basically his words."

At first, the Girard man gave troopers on the scene a tough time even putting a knife to his throat.

He was perched along the east side of the bridge, stopping westbound traffic almost an hour.

Responding agencies managed to talk him down and the man was lifted to safety by rescuers on the fire department's ladder.

"Got him to go in and trust them, agreed to come in the bucket truck. Some of the troopers and we got him down safe," John Norman of the Girard Police Department says.

Motorists at a stand still the entire time watched as authorities prevented the worst from happening.

"It's real dangerous for us, especially the gentleman who went in the truck, the officers who went in the truck. You know you have a human being in front of you and you're trying to negotiate somebody who wants to try to end their life," Norman says.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital immediately following will undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
