Posted: Updated:

CANFIELD, Ohio - Don't expect those OVI checkpoints to disappear anytime soon in Mahoning County.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has awarded a grant of more than $223,000 to maintain operations of the Mahoning County OVI Task Force.

According to a release from the Canfield Police Department, the grants are given to agencies who offer programs that have the greatest impact toward fatal crash reduction.

The grant will help cover the costs of sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols targeting impaired driving over the next 12 months.

The OVI Task Force is a collaborative effort enlisting the  assistance of officers from the Ohio Highway Patrol, the Mahoning County Sheriff's office, and local police agencies.
