Federal shutdown not impacting Mahoning County government

Posted: Updated:

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - So far,  local counties have seen little effect from the federal government  shutdown.

But at what point could the shutdown present concerns for federal funding that flows to local communities?

At Thursday's Mahoning County Commissioners meeting, Commissioner Carol Rimedio-Righetti said those types of grants and programs should not be jeopardy.

"I don't believe at this point there will be any impact on the county. Basically everything all those programs are still going to exist that are filtered in from the feds to our county." said Rimedio-Righetti.

The commissioner says she is concerned for federal employees locally, like those at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station, who are being sent home and going without pay.
