County Engineer called on to investigate after Austintown school bus crash

Posted: Updated:

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio - Austintown School Superintendent Vince Colaluca is calling for an investigation by the Mahoning County Engineer following a crash involving a school bus.

A bus carrying two students swerved off New Road, and tipped over into a drainage ditch near Turner Road just after 7.a.m. Wednesday. No one was seriously injured.

Colaluca wants the County Engineer to find out why there are no white lines painted on the edges of New Road, and to investigate whether or not the road is wide enough for traffic.

"To see if there are any type of issues with the road being a little too narrow, I went out to the area. I feel it's a little bit narrow, but I'm no expert. So we're going to reach out to the experts to make sure the road is safe," Colaluca says.

Austintown Township police are investigating, but the Ohio State Highway Patrol says it is standard procedure to send out a team of their bus inspectors to investigate any school bus involved in an accident.
