Volunteers repair homes of Our Valley's Bravest

Posted: Updated:

STRUTHERS, Ohio - Volunteers took some of their own time to give a little something back to those who gave so much.

On Thursday, AMVETS Post 44 of Struthers, in conjunction with the Home Depot in Boardman participated in a "Day of Service" to local veterans and military in need of minor home repairs.

Volunteers picked up their tools and paint brushes in the morning, and went out to work at four different homes in the Youngstown area.

The individuals receiving minor makeovers are both active duty and retired members of the military, including an 82-year-old WWII veteran, a disabled army veteran, and the  wife of a retired Marine gunnery sergeant.

This was the third time Amvets and Home Depot volunteers have teamed up to help individual veterans and their families.

Money for the projects come from grants from the Home Depot Foundation.
