Two new firefighters added to Boardman Fire Department

Posted: Updated:

BOARDMAN TOWNSHIP, Ohio - Two new firefighters were sworn in to the Boardman Fire Department on Saturday.  Ben Poole and Anthony Reiter will replace two fire fighters who retired.

Chief George Brown tells 21 News that replacing the retiring firefighters is critical in fighting fires and serving first responder calls.

"We protect a population of 42,000 which grows to 100,000 a day when our 3,300 businesses bring in people because we are the shopping destination of the valley. We run between 12 and 24 calls a day here." said Brown.

The township held the event in conjunction with it's national fire safety week celebration.

Children and parents were taught how to safely leave their homes in the event of a fire, call 9-1-1 and have a safe meeting place outside.

Chief Brown tells us a fire can engulf a room in two minutes. He explains that's why it's critical parents discuss escape routes and fire prevention with children.
