Canfield teachers and staff learn how to deal with a school intruder

Posted: Updated:

CANFIELD, Ohio - From Columbine to Sandy Hook, school shootings can happen anywhere.

And it's why programs like ALICE Training, are being adopted by more school districts across the country and here in the valley.

In Canfield Friday, teachers and staff spent the day learning the information and skills they need to keep students safe in the event of an active shooter.

Professionals conduct the active training using several different intruder situations. "It only takes a few seconds for many lives to be taken and we're just trying to arm folks with the information on how to manage different scenarios.", said Canfield School Superintendent Alex Geordan.

ALICE training is based on what's been learned from school shootings, to better the chances of surviving an emergency situation.
