Huge rubber duck to leave Pittsburgh

Posted: Updated:

PITTSBURGH (AP) - The huge rubber duck that has been at Pittsburgh's waterfront is leaving town.

The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust says the 40-foot duck has been tremendously popular, but they still plan to deflate it on schedule Sunday. Some area residents started an online petition asking for the duck to stay in Pittsburgh, but it will be put in storage at an undisclosed location.

The Cultural Trust says the duck might be brought back to life for an occasional holiday.

The duck is the idea of Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman. Various versions have made a splash in harbors from Hong Kong to Sao Paulo since 2007.
