Hubbard man charged for allegedly pointing laser at helicopter

Posted: Updated:

HUBBARD, Ohio - A man is in trouble with the law for allegedly flashing a laser at a news helicopter covering high school football games in the Valley last weekend.

Nicholas Vecchiarelli, 46, is charged with interfering with the operation of an aircraft with a laser.

A camera operator from a Cleveland television station tells police that he saw the green laser light several times as the helicopter he was in flew over the Hubbard area last Friday.

Vecchiarelli could have faced federal charges, but the FBI is letting Hubbard police handle the case on a local level.

He is due to appear in Girard Court in November.
